Should I tithe based on my pre-tax or after-tax income?
Great question, we get asked this often. The most common view is that gross earnings are the amount of God's provision, and the tithe should be based on 10% of God's provision. Taxes are generally considered payment for the privileges and services provided by the government. Though scripture doesn't use the term "net" or "gross," it's important to note that the spirit in which we give is of greatest value to God. He tells us in II Corinthians 9:7 that "each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give; not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
What does ECFA certified mean?
Coastal is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) which is an accreditation organization dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to Seven Standards of Responsible Stewardship™, which focus on board governance, financial transparency, integrity in fundraising, and proper use of charity resources. What if I don't have enough money to tithe?
Giving 10% of your income to our church can be a big commitment! However, because God tells us to honor Him with our first fruits, we must learn to trust that He is faithful to provide. God wants us to trust Him. Seek His guidance in how much you should give, and He will honor your faithfulness and obedience.
Why do you accept credit cards?
Used within parameters for which they were originally created, debit and credit cards can be an efficient tool for payments, purchases and giving. Many people utilize them in place of checks or cash and simply pay off the balance in full at the end of each month. For these people, we offer the option of using a credit or debit card to tithe.
Is online giving secure?
It is very secure to give online by credit card, debit card, or e-check. All information is collected and handled securely by our giving partners. What is the deadline for annual contributions?
Cash contributions must be received or postmarked by December 31 to be included on your giving statement for that year. Online transaction must be initiated by December 31.
Where do my donations to Coastal go?
General Operating Fund: Donations to Coastal Community Church support its General Operating Fund. This fund makes possible the day-to-day ministries and services of the church. Special funds: Periodically, opportunities to designate a donation to a specific ministry initiative become available. The Benevolence Fund is an example of a ministry-initiative fund. Our Journey Fund is another example of a Church initiated fund but with specific start and end dates. To designate your contribution to a specific fund, simply indicate the name of the initiative (e.g., Benevolence) on the memo line of your check, envelope, choose that fund online (when available).
Will I receive a statement of contribution?
Yes, you will receive an annual statement of contribution for all donations for which you provided your email address (cash contributions may be placed in an envelope with your name and address). All donations made to Coastal Community Church are held in the strictest confidence. Statements of contributions are emailed in January (for the prior calendar year). You may also sign into your "My Coastal" account and see all of your giving and even print out a giving statement. If you have moved recently, please sign into your My Coastal account and note the change, so we may send your statement of contribution to the correct address.
