Why should you go to Africa?

Why should you go to Africa? I will give you a one word answer…Marta. You see...Marta is an 8 year old deaf/ mute girl living in a society that discards the handicapped like they are trash. She is an A.I.D.S. orphan whose grandmother lets her wander the streets.

One day, little Miss Marta wandered into a missionary's Sunday morning kids church. After church, the kids showed the missionary where Marta lived. The missionary received permission to take Marta to the hospital to be treated for the worms that were eating up her feet. Now the missionary helps care for Marta by washing her clothes, keeping her clean and teaching her how to read. I had the privilege of getting to give Marta hugs on a daily basis, something she doesn't get from her culture. If that is all I did in Mozambique, it would have been a worthwhile journey. -- Shawn Aitken
